Hawthornes
738 S. 11th St., 215-627-3012, hawthornecafe.com

Chris Fetfatzes, whose family runs Bella Vista Beer Distributors at 755 S. 11th, debuted this beer lover's café across the street yesterday. A joint venture with girlfriend Heather Annechiarico, Hawthornes is part bottle shop (more than 1,000 picks for your mix-a-six needs), part café (panini, grilled cheese, cheese plates, salads, etc.) and part bruncherie (served 8 to 3 Friday to Sunday). Perhaps the coolest feature in the space (BVBD's original home) is a custom gizmo that allows Fetfatzes to pressure-fill 64-ounce growlers (above) with hard-to-find craft brews. Vietnam Café
816 S. 47th St., 215-729-0260

Benny Lai, who founded the original Vietnam in Chinatown 25 years ago, has completed his expansion of the BYO Vietnam Café in West Philly into the adjacent space that was most recently Abbraccio. The new spot, with room for 180, features a spacious bar area and multiple dining rooms flooded with natural light (plenty of room for private events); the menu is largely the same as the original Vietnam's, with their tried-and-true barbecue, soup and rice platter selections. Liquor license expected in about a month. They're open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. More pics/info on Meal Ticket.

Green Aisle Grocery
1618 E. Passyunk Ave., 215-465-1411

New down Passyunk way is brothers Andrew and Adam Erace's boutique grocery store, carrying the specialized products that make the locavore/foodie types swoon — think organic produce, raw milk from Hillacres Pride, hummus from Zahav, barbecue sauce from Pub & Kitchen, bread from Wild Flour and more. La Colombe, Stumptown and Peregrine coffees, too. Currently cash only. Hours: Mon. to Thu., noon-8 p.m.; Fri. and Sat., noon to 9 p.m.; Sun., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More pics/info on Meal Ticket.
